Children's Eye Tests (6+)
We test children’s eyes from age 6, even when there are no obvious symptoms – because early detection protects your child’s vision and development.
As a mother herself, our optometrist genuinely enjoys testing children and will not prescribe glasses unless it’s truly necessary for development.
We’re passionate about myopia (short-sightedness) management and slowing its progression with today’s interventions. For children under 6, we’ll refer you to a trusted paediatric optometrist.

LICENCE RENEWAL
Driver's Eye Screening
Get your official driver’s eye screening certificate for your licence renewal – quick, affordable and valid for 3 months. Just R50.
We issue your driver’s screening sheet on the spot. Bring your ID or passport, and your driving glasses if you wear them.
The testing station only accepts the original certificate (no copies), so you’ll collect it in the practice. This service is by appointment.

Frame Repairs & Adjustments
We’re happy to help with minor frame adjustments and repairs, including replacing a broken nose bridge – and most minor fixes are completely free.
Need a quick tighten, realignment or nose-pad replacement? Pop in and we’ll sort it out at no charge for minor fixes.
These are done at your own risk, as adjustments and pre-used frames carry a small risk – though frames hardly ever break in our careful hands.

How much is an eye test at The JHB Eye Lady?
On medical aid we claim directly and charge their tariff rate (each scheme sets its own rate). Without medical aid an eye test is R550 cash/card. Pensioners and low-income earners pay R250.
Do you claim from medical aid?
Yes. We charge medical aid tariffs and claim directly, and we can check your optical benefits before you book (obligation-free) and explain exactly what’s covered.
Do you offer payment terms on glasses?
Yes. You can pay your glasses off over 3 months. Glasses are collected once the final payment is made.
Do you offer affordable eyewear options?
Yes. We cater for everyone, with options for pensioners and low-income earners plus budget packages. Frames start from R500. See our promotions page for current pricing.

Do you test children's eyes?

How long does it take to get my glasses?
It depends on the lens design and ranges from 2 days to 2 weeks. We aim to surprise you with a fast turnaround.
Can I use my own frame?
Yes, after an honest assessment of whether it’s a wise choice. Note that if frames break during lens fitting (rare in our care) we can’t be held liable, as they hold no warranty with us.
Do you do drivers screenings for licence renewals?
Yes. A driver’s eye screening is R50, valid 3 months. Book in advance and bring your driving glasses (if needed) and ID book or passport.
Can I order a complete pair of glasses from your website?
You can choose your frame on the website, then contact us via WhatsApp or email with your prescription so we can discuss lenses and costing.
Do you offer frame repairs?
Yes. We fix any pair within our capacity, and replace nose pads on most frames at no charge.
Do you replace lenses in branded sunglasses?
Yes – if your sunglasses are damaged we can reorder the lenses if still available. Send us the model and brand for a quote.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, we work by appointment only and will fit you in as soon as we can. WhatsApp 068 398 2996 or book online.
Do you remove cataracts?
No, we are not doctors. We can identify when it’s time to see an ophthalmologist and help you find the right specialist.
I have an eye infection – can I come to you?
For severe infections please see your GP, as we can’t prescribe treatment. For recurrent itch or burn we can recommend options after a consultation.
